The ending of Para Betina Pengikut Iblis hinted that the three women, Sumi, Sari, and Asih, who had submitted themselves to the demon, would come together to dominate the village and spread evil. Things in the sequel go exactly how we anticipated it would pan out—from the demon uniting the three women even though they had all the reasons to kill each other to us finally learning more about Asih Campaka. The horror in the sequel is not only rooted in demonic possession but also a zombie attack of sorts. The demon had big plans for sure, but was it possible for Asih, Sara, and Sumi to overcome their differences and obey their master? Let’s find out.
Spoiler Alert
Why did Asih Campaka submit to the demon?
Asih Campaka and Karto (Sumi’s father) used to be lovers, but Karto’s mother did not approve of their relationship. Asih waited for Karto, hoping that he would return one day to marry her. All of a sudden she discovered that Karto was getting married to the woman of his mother’s choice, Pertiwi. Asih tried to intervene, but it was already too late. She was so heartbroken that she decided to end her life that day. And it was at that moment that the demon visited her. He promised to show her a better path and asked Asih not to give up on her life yet. The demon bestowed Asih with the power to satisfy the desires of every man. Gradually, Asih became one of the most prominent sex workers in the village, and she no longer had to financially depend on anyone.
Meanwhile, after his mother’s sudden demise, Karto was left with huge debt, and he and his family ended up on the streets. He came begging for Asih to help him out. She enjoyed the power she now possessed, and since she was still in love with him, she decided to financially support him. With the money she loaned him, Karto opened his Gulai shop, and his food was appreciated by the villagers. Asih soon got pregnant with Karto’s child, but she noticed he was again spending more time with his wife and daughter. His attitude towards her got worse after the birth of their son, and the distance between them widened over time. Asih’s arrogance about her beauty faded as she grew old. No one cared about her anymore, and Asih often stared at the young sex workers with envy. She missed the influence she once had, and taking care of her crippled son had left her all the more exhausted.
Frustrated with her worthless life, Asih once again attempted suicide, but this time she offered her soul to the demon. The demon agreed to the deal, but to prove how desperately she wanted to submit herself to the demon, she had to sacrifice her son, Buras. Since Buras was responsible for the murder of Sari’s sister, the demon found a way to fulfill Sari’s wish as well as satisfy his thirst for blood. The demon used Asih to kill Buras, and it marked the death of Asih’s soul and the birth of the demon in her. Asih had peeled out the skin of her son’s face, and she knocked on Sari’s door upon the demon’s instruction. Sari performed black magic to help Asih transform into the beautiful young woman she once used to be. While Asih got back her youth, Sari learned about Dr. Freedman, the man responsible for her sister’s death (if you want to know more about this, refer to the Para Betina Pengikut Iblis explainer). While Sari sought her revenge, Asih went back to business, but maintaining her youth came with a price. She had to repeatedly drink blood and consume human flesh to satisfy her hunger and to maintain her youthful appearance.
Did Asih recover Karto’s body?
The villagers soon found out about Asih’s secret. They tried to contain her, but the demon within her was impossible to control. Asih attacked anyone who threatened her existence, but surprisingly, her victims did not die. Well, they died momentarily, but soon the demon took control of the bodies and created an army of dead villagers. Their souls were destroyed, and all that remained were their bodies and the constant thirst for blood. Now that she had figured out black magic could change her life, Asih knocked on Sumi’s door to bring home her lover (Karto). Sari accompanied her because she wanted to seek revenge on Sumi for dismembering her sister’s corpse and feeding the villagers. While the three fought amongst themselves, the demon reminded them that they must overcome their differences and unite for his cause. They failed to realize the threat that awaited them and got carried away. Asih dug out Karto’s decapitated corpse and sewed it back together. With Sari’s help, she managed to bring him back to life. Of course, he was not the man he used to be, but Asih was pleased just to have him in her life. She organized a small wedding ceremony and unearthed the bodies of her mother-in-law and her son to seek their blessings after their holy union.
Who was the visitor?
A visitor had entered the cursed village in the sequel, and his presence threatened the demon. He was hopeful that his three worshippers would unite and ensure the death of the visitor, but their differences and mutual hatred won. Towards the end of Para Betina Pengikut Iblis 2, it was revealed that the visitor was Sumi’s estranged brother, Ahmad. As it turned out, when Ahmad was little, he woke up one night to the heated argument of his parents. He had witnessed his father murder his mother, and he was afraid that he too would meet the same fate. Ahmad tried to wake Sumi from her sleep, but when she did not respond, he decided to leave the house on his own. While walking through the forest, he met a holy man, and he provided Ahmad shelter. Ahmad grew up to become a religious man who feared nothing as long as God was by his side. He had returned to the village to reunite with his sister, but he did not expect to be greeted by the demon. Every time he prayed, Sari’s black magic failed. Her plans of killing Sumi with her spells remained unfulfilled only because of Ahmad. Sari had started to hate him because his presence was intervening with her plans.
Meanwhile, Ahmad realized that his sister, along with Sari and Asih, were possessed by the demon. He was troubled to see the destruction the demon and his worshippers had brought to the village. Someone had to stop them, and Ahmad decided to reveal his true identity to his sister and help her seek forgiveness from God. Sumi was hesitant about accepting Ahmad back into her life. She blamed him for leaving her all by herself to deal with her father. She believed her life could have been better if Ahmad had stayed back; maybe she would not have had to seek the demon’s help if her brother had been around.
Ahmad begged Sumi to help him fight Sari and Asih, but she had no interest. Ahmad was in disbelief when he discovered that Sumi had killed their father. He had returned home hoping to help Sumi, but the more he learned about her life, the more disappointed he felt. He begged Sumi to repent for her sins before God because only then could she be saved. But Sumi knew she was deep in the mess, and she was certain that she could not be saved. She still believed that only if she left the village would she be able to build a life on her own. But she soon realized that the demon, through Sari and Asih, would never let her leave. She was in disbelief when she realized that Ahmad’s devotion had the power to stop the effect of Sari’s black magic. It convinced her that maybe her brother was right; maybe all she needed was the blessing of God.
Was Sumi saved from the demon?
Escaping the demon was not easy for Sumi. As she started to trust her brother, the demon reminded her how he was mostly absent all her life. The demon encouraged Sumi to fight her brother, to kill him, and allow the demon to triumph. Sumi attempted to attack Ahmad, but her brother used prayer as his weapon and helped Sumi come back to her senses. She begged her brother to help her and guide her. Ahmad promised to help her, but before that, she had to find a way to bring Sari and Asih to him. Sumi came up with the plan of presenting Ahmad as a gift to Asih. She knew how bloodthirsty her ‘stepmother’’ was, and she was confident that Asih would not reject the present. Asih was surprised by Sumi’s change of heart; the demon warned her that it was all a ploy to kill her, but the smell of fresh blood lured Asih out of her room. Asih was ready to forgive Sumi; after all, they both had killed their family members and were equally unredeemable. Just when Asih was about to bite Ahmad’s nape, he stabbed her. He assumed it would be enough to kill Asih, but he did not realize that with the demon living in her, it was impossible to destroy Asih. The demon influenced Sumi once again, and Ahmad had to fight his sister as well as Asih. The situation turned even more challenging when Asih called upon her zombie followers.
In Para Betina Pengikut Iblis 2’s ending, Ahmad’s teacher (the holy man) came to his rescue. He prayed out loud, leaving the demon-possessed bodies tormented. The demon could no longer stay in Asih’s body since she had become weak due to the wound. He needed a stronger body to fight the influence of the prayers. He possessed Sari, but Ahmad and his teacher’s devotion was strong enough to drive the demon out. Sari ran away, though it is likely that she will return once again to seek revenge on behalf of the demon. Asih had escaped, and since Karto was once again killed, she will likely join Sari. Sumi was the only one who wanted to become a better person. She repented for her sins and submitted herself to God. Ahmad helped her realize that she was not completely doomed; there could be redemption if she truly wanted it. Hopefully, Sumi’s faith will remain strong and she will not be lured by the demon. If there is another sequel, we can expect Sumi and Ahmad to come together to defeat Sari and Asih. Maybe Ahmad’s teacher will help them prepare to fight the demon, and hopefully, the village will be saved from all the madness.
