星雲仮面マシンマン
Synopsis
Seiun Kamen Machineman is a Japanese tokusatsu television series created by Shotaro Ishinomori and produced by Toei Company. It aired from January 13th until September 28th, 1984. It revolves around the adventures of Nick, a college student from the Ivy planet and his arrival on Earth to study the earthlings' behavior. Upon arrival, he is called in for the activities of the evil organization called "Tentacle", whose don, Professor K, wishes to eliminate all children in the world.
Several of the series' aspects are rumored to have been inspired by American DC Comics superhero Superman, although this was never confirmed by either Ishinomori or Toei.

Toei spent a lot of money to make Gavan a hit in 1982, and when that franchise took off they got cocky and tried launching a third tier (in the absence of Kamen Rider) of tokusatsu with more of an emphasis on comedy than action. The only two things to come out of that were Machineman, and Kyoudai Ken Byclosser. Both never even hit the 40+ episode threshold of most tokusatsu seasons, and this is why you've never heard of them.
Machineman is definitely going for a certain type of comedy, in that it is wildly silly. It's very obviously a Superman rip-off, about this guy from another planet with thick rimmed glasses named KEN whose love interest works for…

Absolutely delightful. The key to a successful kids show is to have terrible things happening to kids in every episode. The second episode features a plot to collect children’s tears (I forget why) by forcing them to watch videos of their moms getting hit by cars. These kids never seem to catch on that a man wearing eyeshadow is just some pervert trying to glue Party City masks to their faces. The last episode turns into Salò for middle schoolers. Favorite line of dialogue: “We’re only 11 and we have to get the electric chair?!”
And then there’s Machine Man, a guy who’s friends with his baseball.

one of my absolute favorite tokusatsu shows for being a pure-hearted comedic riff on superman aimed at kids that revels in being for kids in a way so endearing that i will defend this show to my last breath. a show designed to make you feel warm and fuzzy. a show that tells you to take it easy. would recommend.

A mad scientist who hates children works with some evil cyborgs/robots, one is a heavy-breathing pervert robot who starts knocking down buildings in japan, the other is Drill-man, a guy who turns into a cyborg with an arm-drill. The 'Iron Man' heavy-breather wants to go to war with the armies of the earth, but the mad scientist hates children so much he decides instead to destroy their education by erasing all books.
Machineman is an alien who has appeared to study earth, he is essentially Clark Kent and his girlfriend is essentially Lois Lane. He has a flying car that transforms into a fighter jet, a ship that hides underwater, a power-ranger suit with various weapons, and a talking baseball...…
